The Interstate 57 project accomplished new milestones with the groundbreaking of the Corning, Arkansas bypass on Thursday and the unveiling of the new I-57 sign between Little Rock and Walnut Ridge on Nov. 7.

“That was a huge step,” Chairman of the Highway 67 Corporation Bill Robison expressed.

Thursday’s ceremony was attended by representatives of the Arkansas Department of Transportation just south of the state line. As discussed at previous Missouri Department of Transportation meetings, an interchange will be placed at the border and Neelvyille as well.

Work on the Corning bypass will begin in 2025 and is scheduled to be completed in 2027.

“It’s needed and has been needed for a long time,” Robison commented about the I-57 upgrade. “This project will next connect at the state line.”

The bypass will divert truck traffic west of town.

“The amount of truck traffic is enormous,” he added.

Between Little Rock and Walnut Ridge, the corridor has officially met interstate standards. This milestone was commemorated with the unveiling of I-57 signage along the route.

Robison said the I-57 corridor will create a conduit of economic development, connecting Little Rock, Chicago, Saint Louis, and everywhere in between.
