The Missouri Department of Transportation is set to improve the intersection of Route M and County Road 459 in Poplar Bluff.
This project is part of a broader effort to enhance sight distance and safety at the intersection, according to officials with MoDOT. The project is tentatively scheduled to be let in November 2025, with construction potentially beginning as early as spring 2026.
The intersection improvements will commence following the completion of the Route M resurfacing project, MoDOT said. The primary focus of the work will be flattening the crest of the hill to improve sight distance along Route M and its intersection with County Road 459.
During the construction phase, the roadway will be closed in the vicinity of the intersection for approximately two months.
MoDOT has made maps, plans, and other project-related information available for public inspection at their Sikeston District office, located at 2675 N. Main St. in Sikeston.
MoDOT is offering the public an opportunity to request a meeting regarding the proposed improvements. Interested individuals must submit their requests in writing to District Engineer Mark Croarkin at the Sikeston office by Saturday, Feb. 15.
Additionally, comments and questions can be submitted online through MoDOT’s website by the same date.
