The Poplar Bluff City Council is working toward a decision on a finalist for the next city manager. City Clerk Lori Phelps is currently serving as the interim holder of the position following Matt Winters’ resignation in August.
He officially stepped down on Sept. 20 to take a position in the city of Jackson. Phelps said there are 14 applicants, but the names cannot be released at this time.
While she confirmed the application window is closed, the council does not have a firm date for selecting a candidate. The council will have a special closed session Tuesday to discuss the applicants.
Phelps could not confirm if the Tuesday discussion will be the final step in selection. The December meeting is a continuation of the Nov. 19 closed session, according to a city press release.
With the deadline for end-of-year budgets looming, the council may decide before 2025.
No additional information has been released about the hiring process.
