“Just looking out at the crowd, I see a lot of new, young faces,” Corretta Bishop remarked. “It’s just a sea of purple. I love it.”

“Just looking out at the crowd, I see a lot of new, young faces,” Corretta Bishop remarked. “It’s just a sea of purple. I love it.”

Bishop, who was one of the planners Saturday’s Walk to End Alzheimer’s, said she was feeling very encouraged by the turnout.

“Our goal for this year was $20,000, and we have exceeded that,” Bishop noted. “This is the first time in many years that we have exceeded our goal. The people have really shown up this year.”

The donations will all be used to help fund research and development of new Alzheimer’s medications, treatments and therapies. More than 100 people were on hand at the event Saturday morning, to walk one mile on the track at the Poplar Bluff High School stadium.

“I am one of the faces of Alzheimer’s,” Bobby Marshall remarked. “I was diagnosed 10 years ago, and I’m very fortunate that they caught it early on. There have been many advances since then and, hopefully, I will be lucky enough to stand before you in the future as a survivor.”

After informing the crowd of the exceeded goal, all participants rallied to the starting point to begin their one-mile walk.

“I am so excited to see all of this support,” Bishop noted. “It makes me look forward to the next one even more.”
