Dr. Taiyong David Chung, a dedicated surgeon and devoted community member, passed away at 89. Known for his service in medicine and faith, he leaves behind a legacy of compassion and commitment to helping others.

Dr. Taiyong David Chung passed away on Dec 12, 2024 at age 89.

He was born on Sept. 6, 1935 to Man Cho Chung and Seung Mae Kim.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Hyun Sook Chung, and his three daughters; Esther Soae Chung, Ruth Seungae Chung and Sarah Ihnae North. Other loving family members include his three grandchildren: Louisa Bagot, John Bagot and Abigail North.

He is also survived by his sisters; HiKyung Brandt, Hiyung Chung and Hieun Lee and finally by his brother-in-law and sons-in-law; Rev. John Junghyun Lee, Craig North and Tim Camp.

Dr. Chung led a full and selfless life during his time on this earth. His goal in both his professional and private lives was to help others as well as spread the word of God.

He graduated from the Catholic University of Korea School of Medicine in Seoul in 1961.

In 1966 he moved to the U.S. to complete his residency in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania where he married Hyun Sook Lee in 1969. They made their way to Poplar Bluff, Missouri, where he became a staff surgeon at the VA Hospital in 1974.

He opened a private practice (Chung Medical Clinic) in 1980, where he worked as a general surgeon and a general practitioner until 2003.

He was an active member of First United Methodist Church since 1977 where he sang in the choir and taught the Wesleyan Sunday school class.

He became a member of Gideon International in 1985, where he led the prison ministry program, was active in Bible distribution, and acted as church speaker.

He also participated in more than 50 mission trips from 2001 to 2020 through Baptist Medical Missions International based in Arkansas.

The funeral service was held at Chapel of the Resurrection in Bothell, Washington at 4 p.m. Monday, Dec. 16.
