Patsy Mobley

Patsy Sue Mobley, 74, moved to heaven, Feb. 11, 2025. She was at home surrounded by her family. She did it her way, she waited until the grandkids went to school. Patsy was born Sept. 1, 1951, in Monmouth, Illinois to Harold and Lorene (Morgan) Payne.

Patsy enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She loved riding horses and watching the grandkids ride, giving them pointers from the sidelines. Patsy had that infectious smile. If you met her, you instantly loved her. Patsy started her working career at the early age of 11. She rode a motorcycle to carhop at Thompson’s Drive In. Later Patsy waitressed at the local diner downtown for the Lerouxs. She also owned and ran Uncle Dudley’s Clothing Store. She worked at the Jon Boat Restaurant. Patsy ventured out and worked at Vitronics for a few years before buying her own restaurant, Patsy’s Place. She even drove a semi - 18-wheeler for a short stint. In June 1987 she purchased Patsy’s Journeyman Restaurant. She remained at that location for 33 years, building a phenomenal business that was known for the home-style cooking that Patsy took great pride in

Of all her outstanding accomplishments, she considered her three children the greatest. She raised them solely on her own. She loved them fiercely and always gave her guidance when needed. She gave the best advice.

Patsy married Brian Mobley Nov. 26, 1994. They were married on horseback in their front yard on their farm, which they named Mobley’s Diamond P Ranch.

Patsy genuinely loved everybody with her whole heart. She enjoyed going trail riding with her girls. She could never say “no” to anyone. She helped anyone that asked. She donated countlessly to our community. Patsy was a giver, a huge giver.

Patsy’s pride and joy were her grandchildren. She enjoyed every second with them.

Patsy stayed positive through this cancer journey. She kept everyone positive with her smile and pep talks. She was tough — they gave her two weeks, and she gave us almost two more years. When we got bad news – while we (her family) were crying, she choked back her tears and said, “Well this is not the news we were expecting, we will go forward and not look back.” It was at this time Patsy leaned strongly on the Lord. She routinely spoke on God’s love and strength and how she could feel all the prayers people were sending up on her behalf. She was a born-again Christian, and we firmly know she is celebrating in Heaven today.

If you stopped for a second and spoke to her, she would tell you just how amazing you were. Patsy loved to talk; she never met a stranger. She had a listening ear for anybody. Her advice was always inspiring to whomever received it. If Patsy had something and you needed it, she absolutely gave it to you. She would give her shirt off her back, her last dollar, or last bite of food to someone else, never expecting anything in return.

Patsy is survived by her husband, Brian; her mom, Lorene Payne; brother, Kenny Payne; sons, Roy (Katie) Friend and Bunkie (Teresa) Friend; and daughter, Angie Friend (Chuck Kite). Also surviving are her grandchildren, Austin Leroux (Riane Murray), Jakelyn Bess (Kolby), Katelyn Adams (Cody), Jenna Friend, Jaysa Friend, Ethan Ormsby (Kaley Kepplinger), and Bailey Friend; great-grandchildren, Krease Adams, Ryder Adams, Jessa Ormsby, Cypruss Leroux, Braelyn Freeze, and Quinn Leroux (due this month); multiple nieces, a nephew, brothers-in-law, and sisters-in-law.

Patsy was preceded in death by her daddy and two brothers, Roger and Gary Payne.

Patsy is an icon, and her legacy will live on through her family and her friends.

Visitation - His Place 5 p.m. - 8 p.m., Friday, Feb. 14.
