Volunteers from the John J. Pershing VA Medical Center continued a tradition of service on Monday, honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. VA employees cooked a massive community lunch at the United Gospel Rescue Mission in Poplar Bluff.

Paula Taylor, Janice’s sister, takes peanut butter cookies from the oven. Paula Taylor, who is the W.E. Sears Youth Services food supervisor, made eight dozen yeast rolls and five dozen cookies to serve. They also made about 10 gallons of chicken and dumplings. The VA volunteers started cooking between 8-8:30 a.m. Monday for the food to be ready at serve at lunch.
