MAIN EVENT — Get buzzed and jazzed at weekend concert, competition

This week’s MAIN EVENT offers brews and blues.

The third annual Brews in the Bluff will be held Saturday at the Black River Coliseum. The evening includes a chance to sample craft brews, as well as enjoy food and music. The event is from 4-7 p.m.

Three Rivers College will also host the second night of its annual Jazz Festival on Saturday. Starting at 7 p.m. the Three Rivers Jazz Band and the Southeast Missouri All-District Jazz Band, featuring select high school jazz players, will perform.

A fish fry will be held after with weigh in Feb. 8.

— Superbowl of Comedy, 6 p.m. Feb. 8 WHERE Poplar Bluff Elks Lodge COST $30 WHAT Featuring Jack Willhite and Meredith Hopping, the evening includes dinner. For ages 21 and over. Happy hour begins at 6 p.m. and the show at 7 p.m.

— Hearts in the Park, Feb. 13-16 WHERE Hendrickson Park COST Free WHAT This event from Poplar Bluff Library and Poplar Bluff Parks and Recreation invites youth to pick up a map and crayons at either location and find hidden hearts scattered in the park for prizes.

— Valentine’s dinner and show, 6 p.m. Feb. 14 WHERE Tinnin Fine Arts Center COST $60 WHAT An evening of dinner, music, and dancing featuring a special meal catered by Tasteful Creations, piano music by Michael Michelson, and after-dinner dancing with Murphy Music and Media.

— “Under the Sea” Daddy Daughter Dance, doors open at 5:00 p.m. Feb. 15. WHERE Poplar Bluff High School Auxiliary Gym. COST $20 per ticket. WHAT This night of dancing will raise funds for the PBHS Senior Beta Club and allow members to attend the upcoming National Beta Club Convention in Orlando, Florida. — Wolf Creek Connector Trail, inaugural 5K run/walk, 4:30 p.m. Feb. 18 WHERE Wolf Creek Connector trail, 2535 Township Line Road COST $10 WHAT The event will explore the new trail connector. Proceeds benefit the Poplar Bluff Trails Coalition. Medals will be awarded. The connector links the community trail system to the Wolf Creek Trail.

— Kids Day at the Museum, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Feb. 22 WHERE Stars and Stripes Museum, Bloomfield COST Free WHAT The day will be spent celebrating the life and works of Shel Silverstein. There will be story-time, crafts and more.

— 19th Annual Chili Cook-Off, 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Feb. 22 WHERE Black River Coliseum COST Free to public, donations appreciated WHAT Local teams will compete to spice things up with the best chili. All proceeds to benefit the United Gospel Rescue Mission.
