Calls for field and structure fires poured in on Saturday. The BCFD raced up and down the county to extinguish the blazes.

Butler County firefighters faced a hectic Saturday, tackling six grass fires between 1:16 p.m. and 5:28 p.m. The fires spanned multiple locations, requiring extensive resources and coordination.

A grass fire at 2074 Iron Bridge Road ignited the busy afternoon for county fire crews. Beginning at 1:16 p.m., seven firefighters spent 30 minutes putting out the fire across a small area.

The next alarm, at 1:52 p.m. on the property of Randy Taylor at 5091 Highway M, kept 10 firefighters on the scene for three hours. The fire destroyed a 20-by-20-foot outbuilding, an acre of grass and a wooden privacy fence. The crew members brought in five trucks and used approximately 6,000 gallons of water.

While the crew battled the fire on the Taylor property, an alarm sounded at 3:02 p.m. for a five-acre field fire at 1754 County Road 323, owned by Bobby Dickens. Responding were 12 people and three fire trucks. They were at the scene one hour and used 200 gallons of water.

About 18 minutes after the Dickens property fire was called in, another alarm sounded for a grass fire on the roadside at County roads 607 and 605. At 3:20 p.m., three firemen and two trucks were dispatched. They were at the scene for 20 minutes and used an estimated 100 gallons of water to put out the fire.

Before they doused the roadside fire, at 3:31 p.m. crews were called to respond to a grass fire at 280 County Road 255 on two acres owned by Edward Mims. Twelve firefighters in four trucks spent an hour battling the fire.

The final call for the day came in at 5:28 p.m. and crews headed to a two-acre field fire at 4188 County Road 158. Ten firefighters in four trucks used 150 gallons of water to put out the fire. There was no owner listed.
