Thick white smoke from 2,500-acre prescribed burns in Mark Twain National Forest is visible near Poplar Bluff. These controlled burns are part of forest management efforts in Butler County.

Mark Twain National Forest is currently completing prescribed burns in the Butler County area, which residents and visitors may have noticed. Thick white smoke was visible this afternoon to the north of Poplar Bluff.

The Victory prescribed burn units will total approximately, 2,500 acres. This area is located about 10 miles northwest of Poplar Bluff.

For Sunday, March 9, Mark Twain National Forest conducted the following prescribed burn operations:

  • Minninghaw prescribed burn, located about 7 miles west of Bunker.
  • Wylie King Unit 1 prescribed burn within the Can Ridge project area five miles south of Williamsville.
  • Forest Service firefighters will also assist with prescribed burn operations at Fort Leonard Wood.
