New and remodeled construction valued at nearly $2 million saw permits in February from the city of Poplar Bluff.

This included one planned new commercial construction valued at $208,000, and six commercial additions/remodels valued at just over $1.4 million.

Permits were issued for two new residential construction projects, valued at a total of $100,000.

The city collected just over $6,100 on a total of 94 permits and licenses issued in February. This included 14 building permits, two demolition permits and 10 occupancy permits.

The Juice Cafe marked the grand opening of its new location Saturday, offering giveaways and samples. The location is at 916 N. Westwood Blvd.

The Greater Poplar Bluff Area Chamber of Commerce will host St. Patrick’s Trivia at 5 p.m. March 13 at The Grotto. Entry is $125 for each eight-person team. The event is open to chamber members. A home buyer seminar will be offered from 5:30-7 p.m. March 20 at the Greater Poplar Bluff Area Chamber of Commerce. Hosted by Borrowed Time Real Estate and Tessa Jackson, the event will offer information on financing options, costs and other expert advice.

An informational session will be held from noon-1 p.m. March 28 on registered apprenticeships. The event will be at the Greater Poplar Bluff Area Chamber of Commerce. It offers a chance to learn more about Missouri Apprenticeship and how it can benefit businesses, employees, and job seekers in the community.

Ozark Border Electric Cooperative will host a first responder safety presentation from 9-11:30 a.m. April 8 at their headquarters in Poplar Bluff. It will include information on pulling meters, downed power lines, equipment in lines, pole fires and more. The deadline to register is March 25. Free AARP TaxAide clinics will be held from 8:30-11 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays at Twin Towers in Poplar Bluff through April 10. Those wanting to have taxes prepared must have an appointment, which may be made by calling 573-686-8624. It is available to residents who are 100% disabled, aged 65 or older or low income.
