Firefighters from all three Poplar Bluff stations responded to a McDonald’s restaurant early Monday morning.
According to Capt. Steve Burkhead’s report, the fire department was dispatched at 1:55 a.m. to the report of smoke in the building, located at 550 Highway 53.
Upon their arrival, Burkhead said, only smoke was showing and the origin of the smoke was a duct containing HVAC, cable, exhaust, heating or AC.
“After investigation, it was found the dust inside the main duct work had ignited. Fire department personnel removed the vents from the main ductwork and extinguished any smoldering material found,” Burkhead said.
One room was damaged and the cause was unintentional, Burkhead said.
The Butler County Health Department was contacted in regards to the smoke in the building. The business will be allowed to reopen after cleaning and inspection by the health department.
Firefighters from the three stations responding were Burkhead, Lt. Adam Yeley, Jeremy Downing, Capt. Brad Jones, Micheal Somers, Lt. Josh Robison, Capt. Kevin Edgar, Chad Lowe and Eric Mierisch.
The crews' arrival times were 1:57 a.m., 1:59 a.m. and 2:06 a.m. Crews were back in service at 3:48 a.m., 3:54 a.m. and 3:55 a.m.
