The annual Festival of Lights, held in November and December, raised approximately $12,000 to fund activities this year at Wappapello Lake.

The event is hosted by the non profit, Friends of Wappapello Lake. The group uses donations collected during the holiday favorite to support the lake’s annual Fourth of July fireworks show and other projects, said Friends President John Totten.

This year, more than two dozen groups decorated spots at Redman Campground East. Approximately 250,000 lights transformed the campground in what is the 32nd year for this event.

The event annually draws thousands of visitors, who also are treated to appearances by Santa Claus.

Visitors vote for their favorite display. Winners are: first place, Boys and Girls Club of the Heartland; second place, Blaich Family Dentistry; and third place, United Methodist Church of Wappapello.

Anyone interested in volunteering or donating can contact Totten at 303-909-1590. The Friends group hosts a variety of activities throughout the year.
