Susan Carroll
Susan Marie (Thee) Carroll, 66, of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, died Sunday, Nov. 3, 2024, at her residence.
Mrs. Carroll was born in Saint Joseph, Missouri Aug. 8, 1958, the daughter of Roy F. and Mary C. (Collins) Thee.
She graduated with her Bachelors degree in 1980 at Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg, Missouri. She was united in marriage to David W. Carroll Dec. 15, 1979, in Warrensburg, Missouri. Through this union two sons and one daughter were born.
Susan and David moved to Poplar Bluff, Missouri in March of 1981, following David as he was transferred with the Missouri State Highway Patrol. She was hired on with the Poplar Bluff Police Department of that same year. Susan was the first female sergeant in the history of the department and was one of the first D.A.R.E. Officers in the state of Missouri. She served 19 years with the department before being medically retired. She was a life long member of the Catholic Church and found her home at Sacred Heart in Poplar Bluff, Missouri after moving to town.
She was dedicated to community outreach by providing marriage preparation classes and being a Cub Scout Den Leader. Susan loved to watch her husband and daughter perform in the Stage Company and her boys playing sports. She avidly watched the Kansas City Royals and Chiefs and had a special love for Snoopy.
Susan was preceded in death by her parents, Roy F. and Mary C. (Collins) Thee. Survivors are a husband, David Carroll of Poplar Bluff; two sons, Shawn Carroll and his wife, Amanda, of Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, New Jersey, and Matthew Carroll and his wife, Andrea, of Poplar Bluff; one daughter, Jennifer Urich and her husband, Dustin, of Poplar Bluff; one sister, Karen Pepple and her husband, John Kevin, of New Lenox, Illinois; one brother, James Thee and his wife, Linda, of Lee’s Summit, Missouri; and eight grandchildren.
Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 8, 2024, at Willow Ridge Funeral Home, Poplar Bluff; Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, 2024, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Poplar Bluff; interment in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Poplar Bluff.
