Poplar Bluff Junior High students raised $400 to help the Walk to End Alzheimer’s through a new event, the Duck Derby.

The Duck Derby was held Sept. 28 in Downtown Poplar Bluff.

The Poplar Bluff Junior High School, under the direction of Principal Candace Warren and teacher Kathy Pattillo, held a series of three hat days (named Duck Your Head) to raise funds for the Duck Derby, shared Brenda Allen, who serves on the planning committee for the Walk to End Alzheimer’s.

Participating students paid $1 to be entitled to wear a hat for the day. Three students from teacher Kathleen Pattillo’s leadership class, Kaitlyn Hillis, Annisyn Oakley and Madeline Allbritton, coordinated the effort. The students raised $400 to sponsor ducks, with one of their ducks finishing in the top five.
