Poplar Bluff Police responded to a nonfatal shooting early Saturday morning and, after a day of searching, detained a suspect.
According to the police report, officers were dispatched to an apartment in the 1900 block of South Broadway Street in reference to assault. Investigators concluded that an argument led to one person being shot in the back. The victim was transported to Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center and later Cape Girardeau with non-life threatening injuries
Kevin D. Spratt, 26, of Poplar Bluff was taken into custody without incident at approximately 2 a.m. Sunday. According to the report, Spratt was discovered hiding in the trunk of a car. He was transported to the Butler County jail and is being held on charges of first degree assault, armed criminal action, and unlawful use of a weapon.
“I would like to commend our patrol officers, detectives, and communications personnel for their outstanding teamwork and dedication in apprehending the suspect,” Poplar Bluff Police Chief Michael McClain said. “Their investigative diligence and coordinated efforts ensured that this dangerous individual was taken off the streets. This is a testament to the professionalism and commitment of our entire team. I thank them for their continued service and dedication to keeping Poplar Bluff safe.”
