Several construction projects are underway in Poplar Bluff.
Work has begun on the new Boys & Girls Club of the Heartland teen center next to the Poplar Bluff High School, according to city building inspector Tony Chilton. He said contractors have begun doing earthwork to prepare the site for footings.
“They have a lot of dirt work to do,” Chilton noted.
At the former site of a bowling alley on Main Street, he said progress on a Dollar General has been rapid for. The bowling alley has long since been cleared away. The steel frame is up and the roof will soon be put on the new structure.
“They’re moving pretty quick,” he added.
Chilton stated the Dollar General has a new floor and concrete foundation.
Meanwhile, at the Murphy’s Gas Station near Walmart Supercenter on South Westwood Boulevard, he recounted a slowdown in the construction process.
“We’re having a problem with the drainage over there,” Chilton shared.
He said a drainage culvert between Walmart and Murphy’s needs to be replaced for the project, but it resides on Walmart’s property. The two companies are currently negotiating who will have to pay for the culvert’s replacement.
There is still no estimated date of completion.
