One woman was mortally injured in a two-vehicle accident Wednesday morning at the intersection of Shelby Road/Highway 53 and Westwood Boulevard.

One woman was mortally injured in a two-vehicle accident Wednesday morning at the intersection of Shelby Road/Highway 53 and Westwood Boulevard.

The accident occurred before 11 a.m. According to Missouri State Highway Patrol public information officer Sgt. Clark Parrott and Butler County Coroner Jim Akers, an electric bicycle Crystal Rulo, 40, of Poplar Bluff traveled through the intersection after the light turned red and struck a truck. Rulo was transported to Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center, and while at the hospital she died from her injuries.

The scene of the accident is a major intersection that experiences a high volume of traffic every day, and was partially closed on Wednesday while authorities were on scene.

Akers is in charge of the death investigation and the MSHP is investigating the accident.
