BROSELEY — A cryptic threat of violence posted to social media Tuesday evening necessitated increased security for the Twin Rivers School District, parents were informed.
At least one post proliferated through Facebook and TikTok identified the Fisk school campus as a target of gun violence.
“The post was made anonymously, and we immediately took action,” Twin Rivers Schools Superintendent Rob Brown explained. “Students did report the threat to administration and we immediately notified parents through social media through the school district’s Facebook page, and through the all-call message system.”
Brown noted each school campus has increased law enforcement presence throughout the day on Wednesday.
“We will keep the increased law enforcement presence while the threat is being investigated,” Brown stated. “I don’t know how close we are to identifying the individual who made the threat. But school is in session and we hope to have this taken care of as soon as possible.”
In the letter from the school district to parents, guardians and students that was posted Tuesday evening, Brown stated, “we will continue to limit access to all buildings to authorized individuals as we move forward with school tomorrow.
“Safety of our students, faculty and staff is of the highest importance to our district. We will continue to provide a quality education in a safe environment for all our students.”
Butler County Sheriff Mark Dobbs confirmed there are multiple deputies dispatched to each of the Twin Rivers School District campuses while the investigation continues.
“More than anything, we want our students to feel safe,” Brown remarked. “And this has been a good opportunity to review our procedures, and what shortcomings might be in place and need to be dealt with.”
This is a developing story. Updates will be published as they become available.
