Sheree Gholson has worked a few jobs in her professional life, and at the Daily American Republic she has worn multiple hats. But even though she loves to work and she loves her current job, nothing compares to her love of family and her personal faith.
“I just love my job and I like to help people,” Gholson stated. “I like being able to listen to someone when they’re unhappy and maybe cheer them up and make them smile.”
Gholson is currently the customer service representative for the DAR, but she initially started work with the company as a receptionist.
“I had worked for several years as a paralegal, and a few years after I left that job is when I came here,” she explained. “I let it be known that I didn’t care what I did for work. I just wanted to work. I’m not too good to do anything.”
Gholson grew up in Ellsinore and had no intention of being where she is at this point in life.
“A few years after my divorce, I met my husband Dean and fell in love with him,” Gholson remarked. “He’s a retired city firefighter. We have been together for 28 years, and married for 21 years.”
Gholson has two sons from her previous marriage and her husband, Dean, also has two boys. In total, she has 17 grandchildren to spoil and spend her time with.
“My granddaughter is 17 years old, and I’m taking her with myself and my husband when we go on vacation to Florida,” she noted. “Time moves very quickly and there’s no getting it back once it’s gone.”
Gholson said she loves spending time with all of her grandchildren and loves that her family is so large.
“I have believed for a long time that family is more than just blood,” she explained. “My life is centered on my relationship with God and my family.”
Gholson stepped into her current role at the DAR after the COVID-19 pandemic, and said she hasn’t given much thought to any particular aspects of her job.
“I do a little bit of everything,” she remarked. “I just tend to go with the flow. My priority is making sure the work gets finished and the customers are happy as they can be.”
In addition to the DAR, Gholson currently fills gaps for other offices in the Butler County Publishing family, helping with the Prospect-News in Doniphan and the Dexter Statesman in Dexter.
In her free time, she said she enjoys simple things like watching science fiction television shows and movies with her husband.
“We also like watching cartoons together,” she laughed. “And we are also members of Grace Christian Fellowship in Poplar Bluff.”
When asked why she is so determined to help make people feel better, she said the answer is simple.
“It’s what Christ told us to do,” she stated. “We’ve all been called to love and support each other. And I know that people learn more about others based on what they see — not what they hear.”
