A Poplar Bluff man was shot in the early morning hours of Wednesday while allegedly entering another individual’s back yard.
Poplar Bluff police say they were called shortly after 1 a.m. to the 2000 block of Mangold Street, in reference to a shooting.
“Upon arriving, officers contacted the homeowner, who directed them to a male in the back yard of the residence, who was suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg,” police reported in a press release. “As a result of the investigation, it was ultimately determined that the subject who was shot, identified as Jason Knuckles, 46, of Poplar Bluff, entered the fenced in back yard before being discovered by the homeowner.
“When confronted by the homeowner, Knuckles became aggressive and approached the homeowner. The homeowner, who was armed, shot Knuckles one time, then called 911. Knuckles was transported to an area hospital for treatment.”
Following discussions with the Butler County Prosecutor’s Office, as of this time, no charges are being sought against the homeowner, the police reported.
Police also stated that pending further review of the case, there is no clear indication at this time whether or not Knuckles might face trespassing charges.
