Progress on upgrades to Highway 67 South could reach Neelyville access as early as spring 2026, now that funding for that section has been secured.

The Missouri Department of Transportation is seeking input on plans to continue upgrading Highway 67 south in Butler County, as well as a proposal for a roundabout on Highway 160.

A public hearing will be held from 4-7 p.m. Sept. 10 at Neelyville High School.

With funds previously dedicated to the U.S. 67 corridor and the additional $60 million in funding from state general revenue, a total of 7 miles of interstate-standard upgrades are now funded, MoDOT reports.

This will bring the work to the Neelyville access area and allow a portion of phase 3 to be constructed.

“Currently, we have funding for phases 1B and 2, which will tentatively be let in September 2024,” said MoDOT Project Manager Tim Pickett. “The next segment that’s funded for construction extends from County Road 352 to near Neelyville. This project will include upgrading the segment to four lanes and possible access upgrades at Neelyville. Tentatively, this could be let as early as March 2026.”

This September meeting will look at phases 3 and 4 of the Highway 67 South improvement plan, MoDOT shared in a press release. Phase 3 impacts future access to Neelyville, as well as upgrading an approximately five-mile section of U.S. 67 to four lanes from County Road 352 to near County Road 272.

Phase 4 includes upgrading the last three-mile section of U.S. 67 to reach the Missouri/Arkansas state line. Right of way and easements will be acquired for this project.

A proposed roundabout on Highway 160 would be located at highways C and V.

Pickett explained once the 7 miles of funded upgrades are completed, 4.5 miles will remain to reach the Missouri/Arkansas state line.

During the meeting, construction of a roundabout at the intersection of highways C and V and Highway 160 in Butler County will be discussed. This intersection is located west of the Route 160/158 interchange south of Poplar Bluff.

The public hearing will be open house style, and visitors can stop by anytime between 4-7 p.m. to discuss the details of the projects with the project team.
