SIKESTON — Two people remain in stable condition after they were rescued from a structure fire early Wednesday, Aug. 21 in Sikeston.

During the early morning hours of Wednesday, Aug. 21, Sikeston Department of Public Safety officers responded to the 300 block of Kramer Street for a reported structure fire, according to Sgt. Tyler Rowe, public information officer with Sikeston DPS.

“First arriving officers noted there was smoke coming from the roof line and was notified that the caller was still inside the residence, seeking shelter in the basement of the house,” Rowe said. “Officers were able to force an exterior door open and could hear someone calling for help from inside the residence.”

Fire Division personnel arrived on scene and immediately began searching for the occupant of the residence, Rowe said.

“Two victims were located inside the residence and were successfully rescued from inside the residence,” Rowe said.

The two individuals rescued from inside the residence were turned over to EMS units on scene. Both victims were transported to hospitals due to smoke inhalation, he said.

“Both victims sustained serious injuries but are currently in stable condition,” Rowe said Wednesday afternoon, adding the victims’ names are also not being released at this time.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation with the assistance of the State Fire Marshal’s Office.

“Sikeston DPS appreciates the hard and diligent work of our officers and other surrounding agencies that assisted in the early morning structure fire,” Rowe said.
