Serious accidents involving a bicycle, a Polaris Ranger and a Kawasaki motorcycle were among the four traffic crashes sending five people to hospitals beginning Friday and ending Sunday.
A 60-year-old Fisk bicyclist was seriously injured about 5:52 p.m. Sunday, five miles south of Puxico on Highway 51, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol. The individual was transported by Air Evac to St. Louis University Medical Center.
According to the report, Gregory D. Carter of Fisk was riding in the northbound driving lane and was struck in the rear by a 2016 KIA Optima driven by Benjamin S. Jones, 18, of Puxico.
In a separate incident, a Greenville man was injured in a all-terrain vehicle accident shortly after 4 p.m. Saturday.
According to patrol reports, John H. Helm, 76, was traveling eastbound on private property at 1292 Wayne 528 when his 2021 Polaris Ranger traveled off the left side of the roadway and overturned. Helm was ejected.
Listed as having serious injuries, Helm was transported by ambulance to Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.
A motorcycle accident just after 6 p.m. Friday left another man seriously injured.
Jake L. Hanner, 19, of Bernie injured when the 2000 Kawasaki motorcycle he was driving slowed to make a left turn on Highway MM, five miles west of Malden. His vehicle was struck in the rear, traveled off the roadway and overturned.
Hanner was taken by ambulance to Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.
The report stated Hanner’s motorcycle was hit by a 2011 Cadillac CTS driven by Camden E. Young, 18, of Bernie.
Both drivers were going northbound.
Another accident shorty before 10 p.m. Friday sent two Doniphan residents to the hospital by air ambulance.
According to the patrol report, Crystal G. Smith, 42, and Steve A. Smith, 45, were seriously injured when the 2024 Can Am Outlander driven by Crystal G. Smith attempted to make a turn in the roadway and overturned. The accident occurred on Highway O, five miles west of Grandin.
Neither the driver nor the passenger were wearing safety devices. Both were taken to Saint Francis Medical Center.
