Blessed with an ear for music, a love of history, and a heart for God, James Linden Hogg is a multi-instrumentalist, writer, and storyteller. To help pay for college, he recorded four albums in the folk and Celtic genres. He graduated from Louisiana State University with a bachelor of arts in history, summa cum laude, and is currently a graduate student at the same institution. Through his music and writing, James Linden seeks to entertain, inspire, and educate Americans on the beauty of their history and culture.
Hogg’s instruments include fiddle, banjo, guitar, piano, bagpipes, mandolin, fife, pennywhistle, and accordion. He has been honored to perform with numerous Grammy Award-winning artists such as Ricky Skaggs, Mark O’Connor, Rhonda Vincent, Billy Dean, Marty Raybon, Larry Stewart and others. He has opened for the late George Jones and a former president.
Hogg has played music at the Shaw Center for the Arts, the Acadiana Center for the Arts, and the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival. He also performs at many private gatherings, civic engagements, and churches. He even plays bagpipes at weddings and funeral services.
Although only a young man, Hogg has won several academic and musical honors, including the 2012 National History Day Championship (national finalist), the 2015 Northwestern State University Fiddle Championship, and an honorary day on July 2, 2017, from Ascension Parish, Louisiana. His historical film, “The Night of Prayers,” was a winner in the recent 2023 Cane River Film Festival.
In 2022, Hogg authored and published the book “Finding Faith in the Waste Land,” a collection of philosophical and humorous short stories on life’s quest for meaning.

A familly affair
Jim Hogg is James Linden Hogg’s father. He has enthralled audiences across the South for almost 40 years with his country, bluegrass, and gospel music. From Texas Dance Halls to Baptist prayer meetings, Jim Hogg has brought the ham to the table with his deep baritone voice, refined guitar picking, and Faulknerian songwriting skills. His musical and performance delivery is authentic, rich, and believable, like the humble roots from which he grew.
Jim Hogg’s musical journey began with the River City Good Time Band in the 1980s. Since then, he has recorded eight musical records and has had the honor of sharing the stage with numerous stars, including the legendary George Jones, Marty Robbins, and Johnny Lee. His critically acclaimed album “Trust God,” a testament to his talent, featured the 15-time Grammy winner Ricky Skaggs.
Jim Hogg’s contributions to the music industry go beyond live performances. For over two decades, he has been the voice behind Sunday Morning in Hogg Heaven. It has been a platform for renowned guests like Allison Krauss, Del McCoury and Ralph Stanley, who have all stopped by his back porch studio for a chat and biscuit. Jim Hogg’s career led him to found a marketing agency, a children’s television show, and produce charity fundraiser concerts.
However, Jim Hogg would say his most significant musical thrill is performing alongside his son and musical prodigy, James Linden Hogg.
