Voting is open until June 14 for the Wayne County Hall of Honor, which recognizes those who have made significant contributions to the county.

“Members of the Wayne County Historical Society have the exclusive privilege of voting in this process to annually select noteworthy individuals for their outstanding contributions to Wayne County, Missouri, over the last two hundred years,” shared David Bollinger, of the Wayne County Historical Society.

Those who wish to participate in the voting process, but who are not already members, can join the historical society and still have an opportunity to vote, Bollinger said.

Six categories are presented to the membership of the society: Pioneer (1800-1864), Reconstruction (1865-1900), Progression (1901-1940), Golden Age (1941-1970), Modern (1971-2022), and Living.

“A short biography has been developed for each nominee in each category, along with a ballot page,” Bollinger said. “Members of the society will vote for one nominee in each category.

“The historical society members have been asked to reflect deeply on every biography and vote their conscience as to whom they feel is the most worthy and necessary in each category.”

Last year, 11 Wayne County residents made up the third Hall of Honor class. They were honored with a banquet at Eagle Sky of the Ozarks.

The Hall of Honor was formed in 2021 and annually recognizes the impact of individuals on Wayne County’s history.

Nominations are also being taken for the 2025 class, which requires a signed form and detailed biography of the individual nominated.

“The officers and directors of the Wayne County Historical Society look forward to announcing the 2024 class of the Wayne County Hall of Honor,” Bollinger said.

To join the historical society, drop by the Luna Museum at Piedmont during open hours from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday, or Saturday or may mail a membership request and check to: Wayne County Historical Society, PO Box 222, Piedmont, MO 63957.

A ballot will be given on request once individual’s join.

Membership dues are $20 per individual member, $25 for couples or $100 lifetime individual membership.
