A preliminary hearing for Lesa Alcorn was rescheduled yesterday to May 23. It was originally set for Monday.
Alcorn, who is currently free on bond, is facing charges of second-degree murder and armed criminal action in the death of Matthew Wilkerson. The fatal shooting happened on March 5 at the private residence of her son.
According to different accounts of the event given to investigators, Alcorn had been staying at the residence with her son and Wilkerson’s daughter to help care for their 6-month-old child. Alcorn was the only person named in court documents, all other individuals were listed by their initials and relationships.
The reports state Alcorn and Wilkerson’s daughter had an altercation some time after 4 p.m., when Wilkerson’s daughter arrived home from work. During the altercation, Wilkerson’s daughter reportedly told Alcorn to leave the residence, and Alcorn refused. Wilkerson’s daughter then reportedly attempted to take her infant daughter with her away from the house, and Alcorn refused to allow her to leave.
The dispute led to Wilkerson’s daughter calling Wilkerson to come assist her, as she wanted to leave.
According to the report, after Wilkerson arrived he and Alcorn engaged in a loud verbal dispute. Alcorn reportedly stood at the entrance of the house while Wilkerson was under the car port next to the house. Both were armed with handguns.
Alcorn reportedly informed officers that Wilkerson had been holding a pistol in his right hand, and she opened fire because he “lunged” in her direction while he was under the car port. Wilkerson was shot multiple times, and officers determined that Alcorn had fired at least five rounds from her 9mm handgun.
Alcorn was arrested and her bond was later reduced to $50,000 cash or surety. She posted bond and was released on the Repath program.
Alcorn is now scheduled to appear for her preliminary hearing on at 1 p.m. May 23.
