Over 225 helped spruce up Poplar Bluff Saturday as part of the Greater Poplar Bluff Area Chamber of Commerce’s Total Cleanup of the Bluff effort.
“We were blown away by the turnout,” President Steve Halter said.
Around 70% of participants were from companies and organizations, the chamber said, but there was a healthy contingent of individual volunteers. Bags, visibility vests, trash pickers and other equipment were provided to facilitate the litter cleanup.
Missouri Highlands Health Care and Southeast Missouri Behavioral Health sponsored breakfast and lunch. While Halter was pleased with the results, he indicated there was still more to do ahead of the influx of thousands to Poplar Bluff.
“We will continue taking volunteers along with the two people we are paying full-time,” he clarified.
With visitors from all over the country and the world, the city will be in the spotlight. Halter agreed the efforts of Saturday’s volunteers will go a long way to ensure visitors’ impressions will be positive.
