The school resource officer at Poplar Bluff Middle School was contacted Tuesday, March 19, by a teacher in reference to an incident involving a student. The student was told not to use their phone and headphones. The student supposedly told another student they were going to slap the teacher.

Officers were contacted Tuesday, March 19, at the front desk in reference to a stolen firearm. The victim stated the firearm was stolen from their vehicle. There are no suspects at this time.

Officers were dispatched Tuesday, March 19, to the 600 block of Main Street in reference to a possible assault. Contact was made with the victim and they stated juveniles were throwing rocks at him. The juveniles were contacted and charges sent to the Butler County Juvenile Office.

Officers made contact Tuesday, March 19, with a victim at the front desk in reference to lost property. The victim stated they lost their Apple watch approximately two months ago and was just now able to track it’s location. The investigation is ongoing.

A traffic stop was conducted Tuesday, March 19, on a white Dodge Dart due to the operator failing to stop at a stop sign. During the stop, it was discovered the vehicle was not covered under an insurance policy. The vehicle was towed from the scene.

Officers were dispatched Tuesday, March 19, to the 1700 block of Garfield Street in reference to a fight and property damage. Upon arriving, contact was made with several different subjects. Nobody wished to pursue charges.

Officers received a report Tuesday, March 19, about a missing person. The reporting party stated they could not contact James Young via phone. Young was transporting campers to Cheyenne, Wyoming. The reporting party stated it is uncommon for them not to be able to reach Young by phone. Young has been entered as a missing person.

John Story and Fanci Griffith were taken Tuesday, March 19, into custody for active warrants during a traffic stop. Both were processed and lodged in the Butler County jail.

Officers assisted the Butler County Sheriff’s Department in the area of Angelia Street in reference to a possible shooting Tuesday, March 19. Officers observed the suspect vehicle and a possible suspect exit the vehicle. The suspect was later located hiding in the woods. Officers turned over custody of the suspect to Butler County deputies.
