Poplar Bluff firefighters responded at 12:20 p.m. Thursday, March 7, to 2542 N. Main St. to a report of trash burning. No fire was found, according to Captain Justin Moyers’ report.

Firefighters responded at 1:29 p.m. Thursday, March 7, to an unauthorized burn in the area of Davis and Hart streets. Dispatched to 810 Hart St., the crew located the unauthorized burning at 804 Davis St. Battalion Chief Jeff Hale explained the city burn codes to occupant Ronnie Melton before using 20 gallons of water to put out the fire.

Firefighters responded at 5:31 p.m. Thursday, March 7, to an unauthorized burning at 1002 Clyde St.

Battalion Chief Jeff Hale’s report said on arrival he found scrap building materials burning in the backyard. He located the carpenter working on the house and made him aware of the city burn codes. Firefighters used 20 gallons to extinguish the fire.

Firefighters responded at 5:56 p.m. Thursday, March 7, to 406 N. C St. to a gas leak.

Battalion Chief Jeff Hale’s report stated upon arrival he found gas service had been removed, but the pipe steam had a small leak at the shut-off. Spire Gas was contacted. The fire crew stayed until the issue was corrected.

Firefighters from two stations responded to a motor vehicle accident at 7:20 p.m. Thursday, March 7, at the intersection of Thomas and Victor streets. According the report by Jonathan Miller, they were advised the accident was from a drug overdose and Narcan had been administered. Upon arrival, crews found CPR was being performed by passerby. The patient was extricated from the vehicle and placed on the flat ground. Fire crews were preparing the automated external defibrillator when the patient regained consciousness and sat up. They stayed until the patient was in the care of Butler County EMS. Poplar Bluff police were at the scene.

Poplar Bluff firefighters responded to a camper fire at 9:19 a.m. Thursday, March 7, at 1500 Big Eddy Road.

According to Battalion Chief Jeff Hale’s report, the call came in as a structure fire and nine firefighters from the three stations responded. They used 200 gallons of water to extinguish the fire and were at the scene about 50 minutes. The Four Winds North Shore camper is owned by Donald McCauley, 1500 Big Eddie Road.

Poplar Bluff firefighters responded at 9:26 a.m. Friday, March 8 to an alarm at Menards, 3105 Oak Grove Road.

According to Captain Brad Jones’s report, no fire was showing when Engine 22 arrive. The crew contacted personnel on the scene and was informed the alarm system was malfunctioning. The second crew’s response was canceled. The first crew looked at both sprinkler rooms and advised store personnel to have the system repaired.

Firefighters were dispatched at 2:50 p.m. Friday, March 8, to 1435 N. Westwood Blvd. to clean an accident scene.

According to Captain Brad Jones’s report, oil was on a parking lot. The crew treated and cleaned the parking area and applied floor dry for traction. The crew used 80 gallons of water.

Firefighters were dispatched at 7:07 p.m. Friday, March 8, to a fire alarm sounding at 601 Vine St.

According to Battalion Chief Kevin Edgar’s report, nothing was showing when the two crews arrived, but the building was locked and an alarm could be heard inside. Dispatch was asked to contact the key holder to respond and unlock the building. Dispatch tried to contact the people on the list but was unsuccessful. Fire crews gained access by using the Knox Box key at the main entrance. They checked the alarm panel to find trouble in the boiler room, and discovered a detector on the ductwork in the room had activated for no reason. They located an employee contact number and the employee responded to determine the cause and reset the alarm system. Once he arrived and was shown the trouble area, firefighters cleared the scene.

Firefighters were dispatched to a smoke alarm sounding at 8:26 a.m. Sunday, March 10, to 301 Roxie Drive. Dispatch advised the alarm had been sounding for several hours.

According to Battalion Chief Jeff Hale’s report, no one was at the residence when they arriver a neighbor stated they had been gone for some time. Dispatch contacted the housing authority who made entry. The alarm malfunction was caused by a bug in the detector.

Firefighters were dispatched at 8:59 a.m. Sunday, March 10, to a fire alarm sounding at Menards, 3105 Oak Grove Road.

According to Captain Justin Moyers’ report, while en route the crews were notified said maintenance was being performed on the system. There was no fire but the manager had put the alarm into test mode. One crew disregarded the call and the other crew continued to the store. Moyers contacted the manager, who confirmed maintenance was being performed and the alarm was in test mode. He said he would contact dispatch when maintenance was completed.

Firefighters were dispatched at 8:15 p.m. Sunday, March 10, to smoke in the area of Vine and Eighth streets.

According to Battalion Chief Jeff Hale’s report, firefighters found a leaf fire at 849 Poplar St. Hale explained the city burn codes and five gallons of water was used to extinguished the fire.

Firefighters removed an outdated smoke detector and installed a new one at 6: 25 p.m. Monday, May 11, at 514 Mary St. as a public service, according Battalion Chief Kevin Edgar’s report.

Firefighters responded to a reported structure fire at 12:21 a.m. Tuesday, March 12, in 600 block and Relief Street.

According to Battalion Chief Kevin Edgar’s report, eight firefighters on three apparatuses responded to the call. They arrived on the scene and were unable to locate a structure fire. They asked dispatch for further information on the location. They were unable to receive an answer. One engine disregarded while the others found an unauthorized fire burning in a yard in the area. The crews spoke with the man who had the fire and advised him of the city ordinance pertaining to burning unauthorized materials and burning at night. The owner extinguished the fire before firefighters left.

Firefighters responded at 1:14 a.m. Tuesday, March 12, to an unauthorized fire on a vacant lot at 619 S. Eighth St.

According to Battalion Chief Kevin Edgar, the fire was a pile of trash and building materials. The three firefighters used approximately 400 gallons of water to extinguish the fire.
