The new year is underway, and it’s a time when people will normally be looking at their tax information for breaks. In Wayne County there is a location that can help with that.

The Williamsville Area Association of Senior Citizens, Inc., (more commonly known as the Wayne County Nutrition Center) is now part of a program allowing people to donate while obtaining tax credits for the future.

According to the Missouri Department of Economic Development, more than $9 million in funding was made available for non-profit companies through Neighborhood Assistance Program tax credits. The Wayne County Nutrition Center is one of those companies.

It is cleared to use NAP funds to purchase and install two HVAC systems, upgrade kitchen equipment, improve the parking lot, and improving the entrance to allow easier wheelchair access to the building.

According to the Wayne County Nutrition Center Board President Jeanette Cox, the funds are necessary due to the nature of the services that her company provides.

“We always want to improve our facility for the people that we serve,” Cox explained. “But we also specifically need to get a new delivery vehicle, because we deliver both hot and cold meals to our customers.”

The program is administered by the Division of Business and Community Solutions, and is designed to help nonprofit organizations leverage private-sector funds by providing partial state tax credits to businesses that make contributions to approved community improvement projects. The program can help fund job training initiatives, crime prevention, community service projects, and revitalization of community-based buildings and areas.

“This grant is just an excellent opportunity for us to realize certain funds that we likely may not have otherwise obtained,” Cox remarked. “We’re always ready to talk about donations, but the NAP grant helps even more. We’re excited for this.”

The nutrition center has $197,335 of tax credits available. The Whole Kids Outreach, Inc., located in Ellington, was awarded $349,981 in credits, but was not available for comment at the time of this writing.

“If anyone is interested in this particular tax credit, or any other tax credit, due to their donations here, they should feel free to contact me,” Cox explained. “I’ll be happy to talk to anyone about this program and how it benefits everyone involved.”

Cox can be contacted at 573-718-2854.
