A forklift stolen from 4N Motorsports at 911 Wiseman Drive was recovered at 12:49 p.m. Monday, Jan. 1, after a witness reported it was abandoned in the 600 block of Maple Street.

Candice Burton reported at 3:57 p.m. Monday, Jan. 1, her child slapped her with a cell phone charging cord. The suspect was taken by ambulance to the hospital for evaluation and the matter was referred to the juvenile office.

Trevor Ashcraft reported at 4:33 p.m. Monday, Jan. 1, an adult male acquaintance struck him in the face during a confrontation at his residence in the 800 block of Kinzer Street.

Merl Morgan, 56, of Poplar Bluff was arrested at 5:31 p.m. Monday, Jan. 1, at Menards at 3105 Oak Grove Road. Morgan was booked in on a charge of stealing; Poplar Bluff municipal warrants for failure to appear on traffic offenses and stealing; a Butler County warrant for stealing ($5,000 bond); and Wayne County warrants for failure to appear on dangerous drugs (no bond) and traffic offenses ($1,523 cash-only bond). Morgan was lodged in the Butler County jail.

Chrystal O’Kelley reported at 9:03 p.m. Monday, Jan. 1, a building behind her residence in the 900 block of North 13th Street caught fire after she allowed an adult male to spend the night in it. He pounded on a window and alerted them to the fire before he fled the scene on foot. O’Kelley believed he started the fire to keep warm and did not intend to damage the building.

Lee Hughes reported at 10:22 p.m. Monday, Jan. 1, his wife parked a vehicle on the lot at Marshall’s on Friday, Dec. 29, and returned to find it had been struck while she was inside the store.

Tara Walford, 35, of Poplar Bluff and Joseph Coleman, 52, of Poplar Bluff were arrested at 11:59 p.m. Monday, Jan. 1, at Mike’s Resale at 1015 East Harper Street. Both were booked in on charges of stealing. Coleman was lodged in the Butler County jail and Walford was released pending review by the Butler County prosecutor. The arrests stemmed from the investigation of a shoplifting incident at Walmart Supercenter earlier that evening.

Three juveniles were detained at 1:06 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 2, at Whiteley Park on Highway 142 after witnesses reported hearing screams and crying from the area. One juvenile was taken by ambulance to the emergency room due to their level of intoxication, and the others were released to parents. The matter was referred to the juvenile office.
