Poplar Bluff firefighters responded at 4:57 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 12, to an alarm activation at 1345 Nooney St.

According to Battalion Chief Kevin Edgar, firefighters were met by the homeowner who stated cooking had accidentally set off the alarm.

Five firefighters responded at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 12, to a reported structure fire at 1611 S. 14th St.

According to Capt. Steve Burkhead’s report, the crews were advised en route it was a kitchen stove fire which was out upon their arrival.

Firefighters responded at 6:01 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 12, to 203 N. B St. to an alarm.

According to Capt. Brad Jones’ report nothing was showing when they arrived. The two firefighters checked the facility and found the ventilation fan in the smoking area was not working. The staff was informed the fan needs to be repaired.

Firefighters were on another call at 6:11 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 12, when they learned of an unauthorized fire burning in a yard at 206 N. Riverview Drive creating a lot of smoke.

According to Battalion Chief Kevin Edgar’s report, they met a subject who was burning leaves in the yard. He was advised of the city ordinance against burning after dark before the firefighters used a booster line and approximately 5 gallons of water to extinguish the fire.

Firefighters responded at 9:28 p.m. Tuesday, Dec 12, to an alarm sounding at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center, 3100 Oak Grove Road.

According to Capt. Brad Jones’s report, no fire was showing when they arrived. They walked the facility and found nothing.

Fire crews responded to a cooking stove fire at 4:16 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 13, to 903 Garfield St.

According to Battalion Chief Kevin Edgar’s report, the tenant said while operating the electric oven he noticed a large amount of smoke. He tried a few times shut down the oven. After checking the equipment, firefighters suggested cleaning the oven and stove top before trying to use it again.

Firefighters responded at 1:44 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 13, to an unauthorized burn on the bank of Black River at the Fifth Street overpass and South Broadway.

According to Lt. Joshua Buhler’s report, the occupant was advised of the city burn ordinance and the fire was put out.

Firefighters responded at 9:38 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 13, to a structure fire at B and B Used Tires, 1537 Highway 53.

According to Lt. Joshua Buhler’s report, a large, single-story commercial structure had light smoke and fire showing from a gable end.

Ozark Border was asked to respond. Butler County Fire Department was contacted due to the building being outside the city limits.

After forcibly entering the building, the seven firefighters saw the fire appeared to be located in the office area with extension through the wall to the ceiling truss structural members. Butler County firefighters arrived and command was turned over to them. City firefighters assisted county personnel. Once the fire was extinguished, the crews began looking for further fire throughout the structure.

Butler County sheriff’s officers and Butler County EMS were at the scene.
