• Butler County prosecuting attorney R.I. Cope said it will be necessary to analyze the contents of the six bottles of home brew taken in a raid on the Midway bar late Friday afternoon (Nov. 30) to determine the alcoholic contents of the bottles before making a state charge against Pete Taylor, proprietor of the place. The raid was one of three conducted yesterday by Poplar Bluff Chief of Police Ward Hendrickson and Butler County Sheriff’s Deputies.
• A party of young people chaperoned by Mr. and Mrs. Marcus Hendrickson enjoyed a weiner roast last night (Nov. 30) at the tourist spring south of Hendrickson. The trip was made in automobiles. In the party were the misses Opal Lovelace, Norine Wilburn and Eva Clubb; Lillian Green of Hoxie, who is visiting Miss Lovelace; Pearl Rubottom, Weinert Bachus, Ralph Walker, Victor Moore, Albert Frank and Emery Gamblin.

• The Ozark Border Electric Cooperative will begin a $668,604 expansion and improvement program on Dec. 6, which will provide 429 miles of new electric lines and electrical service for an additional 1,000 families served in Ozark Border’s eight-county area. In addition to the new lines, 39 miles of existing lines will be converted to heavier lines for greater service to REA (Rural Electrification Act) users, Ozark Border officials said today.
• It cost a Butler County woman $6 to learn that Christmas shopping time is a bad time to leave packages in an unlocked car in Poplar Bluff. A woman parked her car Friday, Nov. 26, at the rear of the A&P supermarket while she shopped in the grocery store. She returned to her car and found several packages had been torn open, but only one was missing — a pair of rubber boots purchased earlier at the Cut Rate Department Store on Main Street. An investigation later found the alleged thief took the rubber boots and stolen sales ticket back to the store and got a $6 refund.

• Improvements on U.S. Highway 60 — including an area between Spring and Maud streets — and Highway 51 in Butler County are included among 95 projects costing $23.3 million announced yesterday (Nov. 30) by the State Highway Commission. Also included on the list of projects are improvements on Highway T in Butler and Wayne counties, Highway 34 in Wayne County, Highway D in Wayne County, Highway 51 in Stoddard County and Highway J and Highway AA in Stoddard County.
• Will Smith scored 13 points, while Red Smith and Caldwell each scored 12 to lead the Puxico Indians boys basketball team past Parma 56-44 last night (Nov. 30) in the championship game of the 11th annual Bernie Invitational Tournament. Puxico led 16-12 after the opening period and 28-21 at halftime on the way to the tournament title.
