The annual Buff up the Bluff will be held from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Oct. 14. The city has partnered with Henson’s Transfer Station again this year as the drop-off point, according to material released by officials.

Drop-offs will be done at 355 County Road 305 in Poplar Bluff.

Proof of residency will be required at the gate. Drivers must unload their own vehicles.

The event has annually filled more than 25 construction dumpsters with unwanted items such as furniture, carpeting and lawn equipment.

Volunteers also annually pick up items from about 160 elderly residents in the city for disposal.

Pick-up is only for those aged 65 and older, and must be done by prior arrangement.

Those who qualify may call 573-686-8622 between Monday and Thursday, Oct. 12. Times to call are 9 a.m.-noon and 1-4 p.m.

No calls will be taken before Monday or after Oct. 12, officials said.

All pick-ups will be done Oct. 14. Computers and televisions will be accepted.

Other items that qualify for disposal include construction materials, scrap metal, refrigerators, freezers and air conditioners. Compressors must be removed from the last three before they are either picked up or dropped off.

There is no charge for disposal of these items.

Items that cannot be disposed of during this event include: asphalt shingles, trash from businesses or construction sites or paint.

Tires can be disposed of but there will be a charge for this. The tires can be dropped off at Henson’s at a cost of $4 per passenger car/light truck tire, $15 for large truck tires, $20 for super single or equivalent tires, and $45 for farm or rubber track tires. Tires will not be accepted if on rims.

Poplar Bluff residents are allowed to dispose of yard waste but this must be taken to the East Side leaf disposal site. These will not be picked up.

The disposal site is approximately one-fourth of a mile east of the corner of South F Street and County Road 604. No logs or stumps, or anything with wire or metal, will be accepted. No plastic bags or foreign material may be left.
