— Altrusa Day of Literacy Author Event, 6 p.m. Sept. 8 WHERE Poplar Bluff Library, Main Branch COST Free WHAT Author Megan Walker will talk about her writing process and journey to published author.

— Footsteps Poplar Bluff Medical Clinic, 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Sept. 9. WHERE Black River Coliseum. COST Free. WHAT Footsteps Medical Missions will be providing a free medical clinic. Services provided: medical, diabetic foot care, wound care, hearing exam, cardiology, hair care and hearing aids/glasses if prescription is available. — Build day, Sleep in Heavenly Peace, 8:30 a.m. Sept. 9 WHERE The Bluff Church, 7082 Highway 67 N WHAT Non-profit organization which provides beds to children in need. — Current River Cleanup, 10 a.m.- 5 p.m. Sept. 9. WHERE Watercress Spring, Waymeyer and The Landing WHAT Help by boat, kayak, canoe or foot. Registration at all three locations. — Night Sky Stargazing, 6:30 p.m. Sept. 9. WHERE Big Spring, Ozark National Scenic Riverways. COST Free. WHAT View our dark skies unhampered by urban light. A special ranger program will orient you to the night sky, teaching you to explore and find your new favorite constellations. Bring bug spray, chairs, and flashlights. Telescopes and binoculars are also welcome.

— BARK Ranger Hike, 9 a.m. Sept. 23. WHERE Big Spring, Ozark National Scenic Riverways. COST Free. WHAT Bring your four-legged friends and join a Park Ranger for a short hike around Big Spring. Following the hike, all dogs will be officially sworn in as Ozark National Scenic Riverways “Bark Rangers” and given exclusive memorabilia. Dogs must be on a six-foot leash at all times. Meet at the parking lot next to the spring.
