The SHO-ME Marching Band gathered in mid-August for camp to prepare for their new season, but their first performance will be shorter than expected.
The band was originally scheduled to march for their first and second movements during Poplar Bluff’s first football game Friday, Aug. 25, but those plans have changed due to the heat.
The Mules are home for the game against Park Hills Central and the start time was moved back to 8 p.m., again due to the heat, school officials announced early in the week.
The band will stand and play the first two movements instead of marching, Director Stephen Winters said Wednesday, with information shared to the Poplar Bluff Sho-Me Band’s social media.
This is due to the fact that the band hasn’t been able to practice outside this week, Winters said.
Band students will arrive ahead of the game at 6:30 p.m. Friday, to begin preparations.
They gathered in mid-August for a three-week band camp.
The band had 125 students attend the camp, which focuses on pregame and marching show music, as well as learning the marching drill, Winters said.
“This is the largest number of band members that we have had in several years so we are really excited,” he shared.
The band is scheduled for its first competition Sept. 9 at Seckman High School, during the Jaguar Pride Marching Festival.
