This week’s MAIN EVENT features a pair of concerts and a volunteer orientation for the Poplar Bluff Municipal Library.
The first concert features Bo Blackwell at Haff Whiskey in downtown Poplar Bluff at 8 p.m. Friday. He will be performing an acoustic show at one of Downtown’s newest establishments.
The second concert of the weekend will be the Jammin’ Luau, which kicks off at 5 p.m. Saturday at The Camp at Lake Wappapello. All proceeds from the event will go to the Ethan Noyes Nathan Day Memorial Fund to help local individuals and families. Among the scheduled performers are Used & Refused, Vintage Vibes, Chas Watkins and Blind Velvet.
Poplar Bluff Municipal Library will host a volunteer orientation at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Ridgel branch. Anyone who is interested in helping the library make a difference is encouraged to visit this free event and learn how.

— Fight Camp men’s conference, 5:30-8 p.m. Aug. 24 WHERE First Baptist Church, 551 N. Westwood Blvd. COST $20. WHAT The conference’s featured speakers are Pastor Ronnie Coleman and professional fisherman Hank Parker. There will also be a fish fry dinner given by the John 3:16 Ministry, good fellowship, and great worship.
— Bo Blackwell in concert, 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 25. WHERE Haff Whiskey, 309 S. Broadway. COST TBA. WHAT An acoustic concert by Bo Blackwell.
— Dog Days of Summer Fundraiser, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Aug. 26. WHERE Whitworth’s Gift Chest Jewelers, 333 S. Westwood Blvd., Suite 21. COST Free. WHAT The fundraiser is being held on behalf of Animal Welfare Alliance of Southeast Missouri. There will be shelter residents on site and a drawing for a diamond necklace. MJ’s Family BBQ food truck will be on site and will donate a portion of their proceeds. There will be a 50/50 raffle, tote bags and t-shirts for sale.
— Volunteer Orientation, 2 p.m. Aug. 26. WHERE Poplar Bluff Municipal Library, Ridgel Branch. COST Free. WHAT Interested in helping the library make a difference? Visit the Ridgel Branch and learn how.

— 4-H Animal Art Exhibit opening reception 6-8 p.m. Aug. 31 WHERE Margaret Harwell Art Museum COST Free WHAT The show will continue through Sept. 12.

— Footsteps Poplar Bluff Medical Clinic, 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Sept. 9. WHERE Black River Coliseum. COST Free. WHAT Footsteps Medical Missions will be providing a free medical clinic. Services provided: medical, diabetic foot care, wound care, hearing exam, cardiology, hair care and hearing aids/glasses if prescription is available. — Night Sky Stargazing, 6:30 p.m. Sept. 9. WHERE Big Spring, Ozark National Scenic Riverways. COST Free. WHAT View our dark skies unhampered by urban light. Following the hike, all dogs will be officially sworn in as Ozark National Scenic Riverways “Bark Rangers” and given exclusive memorabilia. Dogs must be on a six-foot leash at all times.
