Dog taxes are now being collected from the residents of Poplar Bluff. Every male dog owned is taxed one dollar and every female dog owned is taxed two dollars. Chief of Police Ward Hendrickson took it upon himself to kill the dogs of those owners who had continuously refused to pay their dog taxes. Even if a young boy has a dog, the article states that his dog will be “taken away” if he is unable to pay the taxes.

A relatable political cartoon about inflation is published: an elephant and a donkey, dressed as hunters, are too busy arguing to shoot a tiger whose stripes spell “inflation.”
