The Missouri State Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of an early morning fire Friday at 2304 Lee St.
A total of eight Poplar Bluff city firefighters responded at 4:41 a.m. to the single-story wood frame home, where flames were showing through the roof.
According to report by Capt. Bradley Jones, firefighters made entry into the structure to confirm reports no one was inside. The structure was vacant and secured when they arrived. A battery operated smoke detector was in operation.
Jones’ report stated due to the nature of the burned area, the fire marshal was contacted to investigate the fire. The fire was confined to the living room of the 1,800 square feet building. There was heavy fire damage the floor and sub floor as well as the roof joist directly above the area.
Firefighters used 3,000 gallons of water to put out the blaze and used the thermal imaging camera to confirm the fire was out. They were on scene nearly two hours.
