A man suspected of robbing a bank in Qulin was apprehended Thursday night.

Zackery R. Stark, 25, of Qulin was arrested without incident at his home around 9:20 p.m. by the Butler County Sheriff’s Department.

The arrest concluded a 12-hour search beginning when BCSD and emergency personnel responded at 9:10 a.m. to Southern Bank in Qulin. Stark allegedly held staff up at gunpoint and made off with around $2,300 in cash. He reportedly fled through the rear of the building and into a corn field to reach his vehicle.

“What led to his arrest was him matching the physical description (of the robber). It was a hunch,” explained Sheriff Mark Dobbs. He added an officer from a neighboring county shared his hunch.

A search of Stark’s house revealed a gun, ski mask and cash in the same amount taken from the bank, as well as gray coveralls matching those in a security video of the suspect walking toward the bank before the robbery, Dobbs said. The BCSD released this footage Thursday afternoon during the manhunt.

Stark is currently being held at the Butler County jail.

Matt Bedell, Southern Bank marketing officer, said no bank employees were injured during the incident.

“Everybody is fine. Our three staff members there ... are shaken up, obviously, but no one was hurt,” he said.

He explained bank personnel go through regular robbery training exercises.

The bank was closed the rest of the day following the robbery but reopened Friday.
