First Baptist Church at 11 W. Castor St. in Dexter is starting summer with a busy month. In addition to their regular Sunday services and Wednesday kids ministries, there will be a kids and youth camp and Vacation Bible School in June.
“We’re glad to get to do so much,” said Online Ministry Director Rebecca Lovelady. “We like to keep everyone connected during the summer vacation months.”
The month starts with the Keepers of the Kingdom VBS for ages 3 through the fifth grade.
“The theme is kind of a medieval setting,” said Lovelady. “There will science experiments, arts and crafts, game time and Bible study.”
The VBS takes place from 6-8 p.m. for the five evenings of June 4-8. Anyone wishing to register can access the registration link at fbcdexter.org.
At the end of the month is the 2023 Kids and Youth Camp. It will take place at the Logan Valley Christian Retreat Center in Ellington from June 26-30. The theme of this year’s camp is Unashamed. The church wants everyone to know the camp is presented by members of First Baptist.
“We ordered a curriculum but we are using our church leaders and parents to do it,” said Lovelady.
The camp is open to students from the second to 12th grades. The older students will be called upon to help with the younger ones.
“It is absolutely wonderful to watch the older kids work with the younger ones,” said Lovelady. “The younger kids enjoy it and it really draws everyone together.”
The cost for the camp is $200 and registration can be done online. The registration deadline is June 18.
Between these two events is a pancake breakfast fundraiser for Footsteps Medical Missions on June 10.
“Footsteps Medical Missions is a non-profit group set up by Dr. Rick Wirz that travels to Honduras and Jamaica,” Lovelady said. “They do office call visits and dental work.”
The breakfast is from 6 a.m. to noon at the church. Cost is $6 per plate. Church members will also be providing homemade baked goods for sale.
The Bible school, church camp and fundraiser are open to anyone, said Lovelady.
“We’re all about loving God and bringing people together,” she said. “We want to make that happen.”
