Poplar Bluff firefighters responded to a report of heavy smoke at 12:34 a.m. Friday, April 7, in the area of 205 Midland St.

Firefighters responded to an unauthorized burn at 7:54 p.m. Friday, April 7, at 2314 Tennessee Ave. The crew had been dispatched to a reported structure fire, but was notified it was a shed on fire. The resident met the firefighters and reported he had a bonfire and was burning furniture. The resident was informed of the city’s burn policy and the fire was extinguished,.

Firefighters responded to a smoke detector activation at 11:23 a.m. Sunday, April 9, at Hampton Inn, Crestwood Drive. En route the crews were advised it was an unintentional activation. Upon arrival, they made contact with staff who stated someone was filling a lighter and vapor mist came into the room, setting the alarm off. Firefighters advised them to fill containers out the building and the clerk was advised to not reset the alarm until the firefighters could verify the problem.

Firefighters responded to an unauthorized burning at 2:53 a.m. Monday, April 10, at 807 Emma St.

According to the report by Capt. Justin D. Moyers, the crew observed a large trash fire in the backyard. Lt. Travis Taylor and firefighter Tyler Daggett extinguished the fire using 50 gallons of water.

Firefighters responded to an unauthorized burning at 6:57 p.m. Monday, April 10, at 714 N. 10th St. When the crew arrived, the resident was putting the fire out. Firefighters explained the city burn ordinance.

Firefighters responded to an unauthorized burning at 11:05 p.m. Monday, April 10, at 2044 Meadows Road. Upon arrival, the crew found a small pile of leaves smoldering. They used 30 gallons of water to extinguish the fire and informed the owner of the city burning ordinance.

Firefighters responded to an unauthorized burn at 7:39 p.m. Monday, April 10, at 600 Davis and Alice streets. After the firefighters explained the city ordinance, the resident put out the fire.

Firefighters and Poplar Bluff police responded at 6:24 a.m. Tuesday, April 11, to a smoke scare at Park Avenue and South 11th Street.

After checking the area, no fire was found and the smoke dissipated.
