Poplar Bluff Firefighters responded at 1:22 p.m. Monday, Feb. 13, to a motor vehicle accident with possible injuries at North Westwood Boulevard and Sunset. They found a two-vehicle accident with minor injuries and removed debris from the roadway.

Firefighters responded at 6:15 p.m. Friday, Feb. 17, to Shelby Road and Highway 53 to a report of vehicle smoking. Upon arrival, firefighters located to a semi-truck smoking underneath the sleeper part of the cab.

Capt. Justin Moyers reported he used a thermal imaging camera was used to locate the fire, which was caused by electrical lines running inside the frame of the truck. Although the fire was out, the lines were smoldering and firefighter Tyler Daggett sprayed the line with 10 gallons of water. Firefighter Tyler Gutterman disconnected the batteries to remove the source of power for the smoldering wire. There still was a large amount of smoke coming from the cab so Lt. Travis Taylor went through the truck’s sleeper to make certain the fire did not extend into the cab. Moyers made certain the fire was extinguished, all power sources were removed and the truck was scanned by the thermal imaging camera to ensure there was nothing missed. Moyers informed the Poplar Bluff Police the fire department was no longer needed. The semi-truck is owned by Mrs. Marion Smith. Also at the scene were Dustin Graves and Battalion Chef Jeffrey Hale.

Firefighters responded at 8:16 p.m. Friday, Feb. 17, to 100 Pine Blvd. and Second Street to an unauthorized burn underneath the Pine Street bridge.

According to Battalion Chief Jeffrey Hale said, the crew found a small camp fire under the bridge. He explained the city burn codes and extinguished the fire using two gallons of water.

Firefighters responded at 12:45 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 19, to a grass fire at 663 N. Main St.

According to Battalion Chief Stacy Harmon’s report, the small grass fire was burning behind the apartment complex. They used 20 gallons of water to put out the fire.

Firefighters responded at 11:28 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 19, to an unintentional smoke detector activation in the 900 block of West Harper Street.

Firefighters responded at 10:11 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 19, to 900 block of Henderson to an unknown fire. Upon arrival, the fire crew found a small pile of leaves burning behind 902 Henderson with the occupant out watching the fire with a waterhose on hand. The occupant was within guidelines of the city burn ordinance so the crew left the scene.

Poplar Bluff Firefighters responded at 7:46 a.m. Monday, Feb. 20, to 1025 Hart St., to the smell of gasoline. Upon arrival the smell had dissipated. The smell had come from a gas station.
