The Poplars on the Bluff mini park was created in 2006. On April 1, a group of local citizens will give it a brush up after 17 years of weathering and use.

The mini park is located at the Butler County courthouse east parking lot, overlooking the Black River and the Union Pacific railroad line. Volunteers will give everything a fresh coat of paint, repair fencing and pull weeds. Work starts at 8 a.m. and is expected to be completed by 3 p.m.

Anyone wishing to help with the project is welcome to attend and should plan to wear gloves, paint clothes and work shoes or boots.

The park was created by the Butler County Historical Society, with support from the Poplar Bluff Parks and Recreation Department, and funded by the Rotary Club to celebrate the 60th anniversary of their Poplar Bluff chapter. It includes a “Liberty Tree” tulip poplar grafted from the last standing Revolutionary War-era tree.

Paint will be supplied by Sherman-Williams and O'Reilly Auto Parts, Mid Continent Nail will aid in fence repair and Revere Plastics is providing other supplies, snacks and drinks.
