Firefighters responded at 7:02 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 14, to 797 Taft St., to an awning in the backyard on fire. The awning was being used for storage of household furniture. The occupant Thomas Chrisman said a candle had caught it on fire.

According to Hale’s report, the crew pulled the booster line and use 200 gallons of water to extinguish the fire.

Firefighters responded at 3:56 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 14, to an authorized burn on Grand Avenue at Neat Street. They located a couch on fire behind 815 Grand Avenue. They used 30 gallons of water and the booster line to extinguish the fire. Cindy Kenney is the occupant.

Firefighters responded at 12:13 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 15, to 959 Cynthia St. for a structure fire, but upon arrival found the occupants were out of the house and said it was smoke from cooking.

According to the report by Battalion Chief Jeffrey L. Hale, the occupants stated it was no fire. After investigating, Hale canceled station two before the crew set up a ventilation fan to clear the smoke from the house.

Poplar Bluff Firefighters responded to Walmart Super Center, 333 S. Westwood Blvd., at 12:48 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 15, to a system malfunction. Upon arrival the crews made contact with maintenance, who stated the dry portion of the sprinkler system had an air leak. Contact had been made with the alarm company to resolve the issue.

Poplar Bluff Firefighters responded at 5:56 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 15, to a reported vehicle fire at Walmart Supercenter, 333 S. Westwood Blvd.

According to Captain Steven Burkhead’s report, a black Jeep reportedly had smoke coming from under the hood with an unknown liquid leaking from the vehicle. Upon arrival nothing was found at the scene. Someone parked near them advised the vehicle had the left the area prior to the department’s arrival.
