The public is invited to a quilt show hosted by the Pleasant Stitchers, a group which pieces together handmade blankets and dresses, often for good causes.

The show is being held from noon-3 p.m. February 16, 18, 21, 23 and 25 at Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church. Visitors should use the church’s basement entrance.

Members DaRonda Robinson, Bonnie Connelly, Barbara Hart, Judy Tilman, Ruther Anderson, Joyce McDonald, Loretta Hinton all contributed items to the show.

In recent months, the group has also used donated fabric to make quilts for Sleep in Heavenly Peace, a charity providing beds for children.

The women of the Pleasant Hill quilters club then decided to use their leftover fabric to create handmade dresses and other items for Little Dresses for Africa.

Little Dresses for Africa is a nonprofit which takes handmade dresses shipped from across the world and delivers them to kids in need, as well as funding schools, wells and other projects. Many dresses are made from pillowcases, but Pleasant Hill was creative, using yards of donated fabric left over from Sleep in Heavenly Peace quilts.

Dresses ship to 97 countries. Their impact is immense — Robinson has explained receiving clothes builds children’s self-confidence, allows them to attend school and protects girls from sexual harassment.

Pleasant Hill Quilters Group accepts fabric donations during its biweekly meetings at Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church, 913 Garfield St., next to Wheatley School. More questions can be answered by calling the church at 573-785-6715.
