Poplar Bluff firefighters responded to a building fire at 924 W. Maud St. at 10:38 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 1, owned by Tinker Properties LLC.

According to Battalion Chief James S. Harmon’s report, crews found a single story wood frame stucco house with heavy smoke coming from all sides. One crew found fire burning through a hole in the floor from the basement. Another crew entered the rear, located the stairs and advanced to the basement to extinguished the fire.

The report said firefighters made entry looking for hot spots. There was heavy charring of floor support timbers and they removed a portion of the living room floor while looking for any additional fire extensions.

The 11 firefighters worked in 27 degree temperature. They used 2,000 gallons of water to put out the fire. Heat sensors, a thermal imaging camera and ventilation were used.

Agencies at the scene were Butler County EMS and Poplar Bluff Police Department. The gas company and Municipal Utilities were called to the scene to shut down power, water and gas to the structure. The building inspector was notified.
