A suspect is in custody after an alleged arson fire in a shed at 625 Park Ave. Tuesday.
RyTreveon Lundarius Ingram, 21, of Poplar Bluff is in the Butler County jail on suspicion of reckless burning or exploding.
The fire is being investigated by the Poplar Bluff Police Department and the Missouri State Fire Marshal, said Poplar Bluff Fire Chief Mike Moffitt.
According to a report by Battalion Chief Thomas L. Lane, he was advised at the scene a man wanted to talk with him. The man told Lane he was with someone who started the fire. Lane had him to wait for a Poplar Bluff Police officer. After the officer talked with the suspect, he took him to the police station.
A crew of 12 firefighters responded to the scene at 6:22 p.m. to what was first thought to be a storage container, but the building was actually wood-framed shed covered in metal.
According to Lane’s report, the door on one side was blocked and could not be opened. A crew used the saw to cut openings in the wall on another side. A fan was put at an opening on another corner.
Firefighters used 1,200 gallons of water to battle the fire in 23-degree temperatures. The thermal imaging camera was used to confirm the fire was out.
The 1,000-square-foot building is owned by Chris Dunivan.
Other responding agencies were Butler County EMS, Municipal Utilities and Spire Gas.
