DONIPHAN - On Jan. 11 at approximately 9 p.m. the Ripley County Sheriff’s Office received a call through the Doniphan Police Department dispatch from a county resident that lives on Highway 21 South in the West Doniphan area.

According to authorities, an adult female arrived at her residence and saw a male subject on her property near a mobile home next to her residence. She called her adult son and told him there was a male subject on their property near their residence.

The female and her son were both armed and began looking for the subject. The subject walked from behind the residence and began walking towards the female and her son. The son began yelling “Let me see your hands!”

The male subject allegedly reached under his jacket and pulled out an object that both the female and son stated looked like a handgun. The subject began to point the object towards them and the son stated that being in fear for his life and his mother’s life, he shot towards the subject six times and the subject fell to the ground, the man later told authorities.

Deputies arrived at the scene and checked the subject for weapons. They found the subject was still holding onto the object, identified by law enforcement as a battery-powered hand drill. Deputies said they found bullet wounds to the subject’s arm and torso. The subject was conscious and deputies began giving assistance and applying pressure to the wounds until an ambulance arrived.

The male subject has a court-ordered protection order that orders him not to be on the property and to have no contact with the female, according to reports.

Investigators arrived on scene and assisted in the investigation. The male subject was transported to Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center and was later transported to a St. Louis hospital. No further information on the condition of the male subject is known.

Names are not being released at this time and no arrests have been made as the investigation continues with the Ripley County Sheriff’s Office and the Ripley County Prosecuting Attorney’s office.
